MCS are still there. Ted who ran it was a right old miserable bugger always with a fag on but a proper old character. I worked as a gopher for a motorcycle shop about 17 years ago and it was on my way to MCS to pick up Triumph spares that I was knocked off my Guzzi and knocked unconcious by someone - next thing I knew I was in Whipps Cross hospital. Sued the bastard though (bloke who knocked me off, not Ted)..
Pete, that third ad pic of the chap on a bike is etched in my memory, was this part of a feature in a times mag on bikers? I was sixteen and in the art class, many moons ago, v early 70s.
Your dad printed Bike mag ! They were the best thing, MCM featured chops but didnt seem sure about whether they were a good thing or not, Bike loved 'em. There was a classic cover on one of the first issues of a guy with big hair sat astride a purple A10 chop, groovy stuff, i have a few issues but not that one. Did you pass ?
Hi Pete that issue is number 2 i think.MCM used to feature a few bikes built by the Bespoke Buggy Company that ended up being owned by Guy Carter, reversed headed Triumph, and Tony Thacker,Enfield 750 chop, before they opened a shop called Big bike in New Cross.
Right, yea ive seen lots of stuff in old mags about the Bespoke Buggy Co there is a write up on them in the Bike Chopper Special issue. All good stuff.

ReplyDeleteBy the way i sent most of my last school days in the art room reading MCM and drawing choppers.
Of course it was Guy.
ReplyDeleteMy entry for O'level art was a chopper Pete, based on some stuff I think from the first 'Bike' Mag that my Dad printed at EMAP.
