DRAG TRIUMPH

I bought this chassis from Mal a guy from Hull who first built it in the late '60s. It has some nice home made stuff on it mostly due to him having worked for British Aerospace but not having much of a budget he raced it with a 1950 650 ironhead T'bird in to start with and later used a pretty standard Hillman Imp engine.
He is retired now and spent last winter tidying it up as a bit of a project then sold it to me in July. I sat a pre-unit 750 motor and box in it just to make sure it still fited in but thats as far as i got.
With the news that this years Hayride will have Drag Racing its as good a time as any to make a start and hopefully have it ready for the end of July. It needs engine mounts and general fettling, engine building, few bits making. About a weekends work that will most likely last 4 months.

This photo is from 1973 the last time it ran. Best time that day was 17secs, plenty of room for improvement there.....

  2. Looks very nice. Havn't forgotten Pete, think it's nearly time to drag mine off the wall too, will we meet in July :)!
Back in the late 80's I spotted a nose cone at Beaulieu auto jumble, I dusted it of to just make out the words "Rouge et Noir". I thought they sounded familiar but also thought no point in buying more stuff and set it back down. The guy on the stall found a few more parts inc some of the frame and said £25 for the lot. I said no and walked away. A week or so later I realised I had said no to a european record sprint bike!
