THE MARKET GARDNER

I know it should be Tuesday to post a Triton but i picked this one up yesterday and its a belter. I bought it first in 2008 when it was an ex sprint race bike, a non runner and unregistered.  I sold it to Paul in Sheffield shortly after and he spent 4 years and much money getting it to the standard it is at now.

Fully rebuilt engine with Morgo 750 barrels, rotary pump, 3134 cams, R followers, gas flowed splayed  head, BTH electronic mag and those wonderful Gardner carbs rebuilt by Ron Gardner personally at the age of 91. Transmission is an AMC box with Commando diaphragm clutch and Hayward belt. It goes very well (for an over 60) and stops like no other brit bike i've had with the Grimeca 4ls front brake. Nothing was left untouched, bronze bushed swinging arm, Lansdowne Engineering fork damping conversion, Scitsu rev counter, new alloy tanks (he liked them with the understated brushed finish)..... The only things i remember it having first time round are the exhausts which are loud, very ! He also got it registered with DVLA as a 1960 Triton. It isn't a tarts handbag, its a fully functional antisocial weapon that will cause neighbours to hate you, exactly what a motorcycle should be.

It was ridden for just over 100 miles in 2013 and then he put it at the back of the garage and bought a 1098 Ducati.

I didn't buy it to sell, i bought it because it's wonderful but if you cant live without it .........

MALLE MILE 2021

Hard to know what to say about the Mile, not a bike rally, not a race meeting, but undoubtably the friendliest bike event i've ever been to. Lovely people all trying to organise a huge number of racers ( i believe nearly 600) take part in events running up to 3 hours behind schedule but somehow it all seems to work. Please though, get a bigger bar for next year....and more food stalls.  I will be coming back !
As i was competing (queuing) i didn't get much chance to take photos but there were almost as many photographers as bikes so i'm sure you will find loads on Instagram/FB etc over the coming week.
Of the pics i did take this lady pretty much sums it up, she is one of many happy girls all helping out non stop and always with a big smile. When you're hot and have queued for ages and your bike won't start because you haven't plugged your lanyard in a smiley face in white overalls shows up asking if you are enjoying yourself, and suddenly you are.
I had intended on racing the sprint, hill climb and Malle 100 but after some over revving on the hill and subsequent misfiring i retired for the day to spectate (and queue for a beer).

*If you are American i believe you spell it queuing but we are British and we invented it so its queueing.

French Long Tourer

1982 Harley Shovel FLT for sale. French registered from new, it was bought by my friend Pete 20 yrs ago to keep at his place in Annecy and occasionally ride home to North Yorkshire. During that time the motor top end was rebuilt by Matts Machine shop and gearbox rebuilt with new Andrews gears, it runs spot on.

The last time it was used was to ride back to the UK when Covid hit and it has remained here unused since. It will need some re-commissioning and small jobs,  clutch drags, left front caliper needs freeing off, battery doesn't hold charge and general servicing.

It comes as shown with genuine bags and crash bar covers.

Currently there are no registration papers, we are trying to find these although they are in France which doesn't make things easy. There is no NOVA certificate, import duties have not been paid. You would need a dating certificate and then pay import duty/VAT (5% on a vehicle of historic interest). I can supply the appropriate receipt.

Price is £5,800. I can help arrange delivery within the UK.

You can contact me on 07969050019 or tri650@live.co.uk

KATOOMBA ROCKABILLY AND HOT ROD FESTIVAL

Our annual photos of Katoomba Hot Rod show from Dave Blamey. The event is held in the Blue Mountains in Australia an area hit badly by forest fires in the last year. Again it was a big success pumping much needed funds back into the towns economy.

SHOPPING LIST

Pulled all the shiny tat off the Shovel but then bought some shiny Invaders which isn't at all the look I had in mind. Also got a Pan tubular swinging arm which is, so not sure of a direction at the minute. All my inspiration (this week) has come from photos of bikes from Luck-MC in Japan, low, understated brightwork, small high mounted tanks, tons of style.
Anyway I have a shopping list; I need
Forks, Ironhead Sportster 35mm disc type legs and yokes and possibly a decent 19" front wheel. NOW SORTED THANKS BRYAN.
Rear wheel spindle for early round swingarm.
Original kickstart lever.
Plain clutch cover (Derby cover). SORTED.
Pair of standard rear side mounting struts for rear guard. NO LONGER NEEDED
Exhausts like this, think they are usually listed as late 60s FL, separate pipes as pic or a 2-1 would do...

..and anything else you think I should have.

Of course it may be that a Shovelhead project is on someone elses' shopping list, in which case drop in and save me a load of work !

IF LOOKS COULD KILL

Bought this last night, the seller told me it is called Sheeba (the Shovel), he also has a Beach Buggy called Beryl and a motorhome called Marianne or maybe it was Millicent, i was loosing interest fast by then and there were still another two bikes to go...
It may be a fine example of American grotesque but it runs sweeter than pudding wine and, er, well that's all. If there is anything you want off it let me know but i'm guessing that if you are reading this Blog the only parts you will want are the ones I'm keeping.
 Live to shop.

FARMER JOHN

John is a local guy who's been buying Slabside GSXR parts off me for a few months for a bike he is restoring. He invited me to go and see the bikes he's built over the years so I went for a look yesterday. Each one has its own story and all apart from the trials AJS were built/restored by him. At least two were bought in the village pub, the green A7 in boxes for £100 ! maybe I should get out more. He has owned the '63 Bonneville for over 40 years.
He went to the TT on the Lightning Clubman three years ago but with increasing years (he's even older than me) finds it hard to start them now so his riding is limited to an Aprillia Mille R and a Fireblade....
