ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOUR SOUL

Bought a Triton from Dennis in Hexham yesterday, 750 T140, 5 speed, alloy tanks, wideline frame etc rode it this morning to remind me just how uncomfortable a bike can be, splitting it next week. In the corner of his workshop were two Gold Stars he has owned and developed for years, i don't just want one i need one.

NEGATIVE IMAGE

This GTX advert ran for one month only in 1968 before being withdrawn presumably as it put out the wrong image. It didn't make me buy Castrol oil (i didn't have a bike then anyway) but i always remembered the ad and found it again last week in an old Motor Cyclist Illustrated.

'70s BRID

Some great early '70s photos from Rich in Bridlington. His dad Stuart is on the red Norton in the top pic. The Beeza chop looks like the same bike in various stages of development.
Stuart now races a very large engined Hayabusa.

HAPPY GOING NOWHERE

If you read Guy's blog you may remember this post last month about Dave, his Bantam and their epic voyage to the Trip Out.
The little stinkwheel now has some EtR stickers ...

"here's some snaps of my first bike (with engine)...a '57 Bantam D3...got the bug badly and had to do something about it...didn't have the bottle for crime and/or prostitution, so a decrepit Bantam it had to be...that was arse-end of last year...been merrily fiddlin', fettlin', fuckin' it up then fixin' it again ever since...figuring it out...somehow passed my motorbike test having had no lessons (legal ones anyhows) in May, got the bike re-registered same month and got it through it's fist mot in 30 odd years a couple of months ago...been riding it/breaking down ever since...fuckin' love it...even though the thought of a faster, meaner, older (?!) bike still keeps me up at night and day-dreaming throughout the day...the small red machine keeps me happy for now..."

Also check out Dave's blog Happy Going Nowhere where you will read about more heroic exploits.

LORANS' A10

Owned since he was a just a 20 year old puppy (he is now about 22 or 23 or something). Fellow Francoise Hardy fan Loran got his old A10 on the road again this year with a part or two from me. More pics and good stuff on his blog at mungochino

WIERD SCIENCE

Kind of hobbyhorse Tribsa built to what you see here with all new or recon parts about 15 years ago (which explains a lot). BSA A50/A65 modded frame, RD400 forks and wheels, professionally recon 5TA motor with Boyer ign, Triumph tank. Comes with a few other bits, discs, half made rearsets etc. Make a great cafe racer or flat tracker and it's under a grand. He who hesitates is lost, it comes apart Monday if not sold before then. tri650@live.co.uk

M20 AND TRI/GREEVES HILLCLIMBER

Barry has a couple of his bikes for sale. Late 40s Military M20, rebuilt gearbox and top end of engine. Few little jobs needed to finish. Asking £2,950 which i recon is cheap.

Greeves with Triumph 500 engine, built for hillclimbs and sprints but only used once, lovely bike, so clean its been living in the house. £2,200.
I took these photos this morning and both are probably even better than they look in the pics. Give Barry a ring on 07989736689 if you are interested, he lives about 3 miles from me (YO17).

WHAPPEN

Chop: Finished converting GSXR1100 wheel spindle to fit, no blingy chrome dome nuts anymore but it works perfectly. Ready for the road i recon, nearly a year since it was "finished".

Flash: Thought about selling it but its just such fun to ride. Decided to take it to bits to have a look 'cos its what i do and better now than have to do it in summer. Bores are mint but very polished so had them honed and managed to find some NOS Hepolite rings, only bad news was exhaust guides were shot so just getting four new giudes fitted then ready to slap back together. Thats not to say i wont still sell it..

Sprinter: Found a C90 front wheel a while back with a nice flanged alloy rim so a straight swap for the C50 one thats in there should be a 5 minute job. 'Course not, bearings different, sleeve different, spindle different. Easiest to machine a sleeve to suit, in progress. I need a new carpet.

GSXR11: No progress, nada, zilch...I need to paint the floor.
