French Long Tourer

1982 Harley Shovel FLT for sale. French registered from new, it was bought by my friend Pete 20 yrs ago to keep at his place in Annecy and occasionally ride home to North Yorkshire. During that time the motor top end was rebuilt by Matts Machine shop and gearbox rebuilt with new Andrews gears, it runs spot on.

The last time it was used was to ride back to the UK when Covid hit and it has remained here unused since. It will need some re-commissioning and small jobs,  clutch drags, left front caliper needs freeing off, battery doesn't hold charge and general servicing.

It comes as shown with genuine bags and crash bar covers.

Currently there are no registration papers, we are trying to find these although they are in France which doesn't make things easy. There is no NOVA certificate, import duties have not been paid. You would need a dating certificate and then pay import duty/VAT (5% on a vehicle of historic interest). I can supply the appropriate receipt.

Price is £5,800. I can help arrange delivery within the UK.

You can contact me on 07969050019 or tri650@live.co.uk

SHOPPING LIST

Pulled all the shiny tat off the Shovel but then bought some shiny Invaders which isn't at all the look I had in mind. Also got a Pan tubular swinging arm which is, so not sure of a direction at the minute. All my inspiration (this week) has come from photos of bikes from Luck-MC in Japan, low, understated brightwork, small high mounted tanks, tons of style.
Anyway I have a shopping list; I need
Forks, Ironhead Sportster 35mm disc type legs and yokes and possibly a decent 19" front wheel. NOW SORTED THANKS BRYAN.
Rear wheel spindle for early round swingarm.
Original kickstart lever.
Plain clutch cover (Derby cover). SORTED.
Pair of standard rear side mounting struts for rear guard. NO LONGER NEEDED
Exhausts like this, think they are usually listed as late 60s FL, separate pipes as pic or a 2-1 would do...

..and anything else you think I should have.

Of course it may be that a Shovelhead project is on someone elses' shopping list, in which case drop in and save me a load of work !

IF LOOKS COULD KILL

Bought this last night, the seller told me it is called Sheeba (the Shovel), he also has a Beach Buggy called Beryl and a motorhome called Marianne or maybe it was Millicent, i was loosing interest fast by then and there were still another two bikes to go...
It may be a fine example of American grotesque but it runs sweeter than pudding wine and, er, well that's all. If there is anything you want off it let me know but i'm guessing that if you are reading this Blog the only parts you will want are the ones I'm keeping.
 Live to shop.

SHOVEL FOR SALE

My friend Steve is selling his Shovel (featured in the current issue of GKM Magazine). He already has a good offer from a non-believer but would like his bike to go to someone who will appreciate and ride it. Its a 1200 kick and electric start and has been totally reliable all year including the trip from North Yorks to Cornwall for The Linkert Attacks. Stevie's owned it for 5 years now and anyone who rides old stuff will appreciate how much effort goes into getting a bike to this level.
The sale will fund his ongoing research into the history of Sorcery at the University of California next year. If you dont already, check out "thewizardslair" on Instagram.

Mail Stevie direct if you have a genuine interest at steviezombie@aol.com

SKULLCHOPPA AND THE PORTERHOUSE STAKEOUT

Spent a great and relaxing day out in the sunshine of South Lincs and Norfolk yesterday. First visit was to Richard Millard at Skullchoppa . Its the second time i have been to his place and just as inspiring as the first, if i had all this stuff i would never go home, except it seems he has as much there as well.
Just check out those "Elvis in Vegas" saddlebags !

100 miles or so East we were at the Porter families chop and chicken ranch at Dereham where Guy was shooting Andys perfect Panhead chop for a forthcoming issue of GKM . Topped off the day with man (men) V food at the Newark OK Diner.
Every week should have days like this.
