RUST PROTECTION

 

Guy and i went to Bonhams sale at Harrogate today but instead of coming home with just the usual amazement at how much people will pay for rusty shit i actually bought something. Not a shiny Sunbeam or an artistic masterpiece (seemingly painted by a blind child) but a box of '70s helmets with TT history and how long is it since you saw a Turbo visor ?

FROM INSIDE THE HELMET

Sold 13 of my helmets so far from Japan to Argentina and many places in between, even one to UK. One or two fetched more than i'd hoped but mostly they went super cheap, a Bell Magnum 2 for £22, where were you ?

Having only one head i have decided to go through my helmets, renovate a few and slim down the collection to the ones that actually fit me. This is a random selection, there are more than this. Keep an eye on eBay if you are a vintage helmet freak.

Kangol, gold metalflake, shell OK but lining poor. Probably a 58 with lining re-done. ACU sticker but i dont recon you would get it through scrutineering. £30.
CAN, probably Chinese, new and unworn, 58-60. Decent looking helmet with EtR stickers. £30
Dammtrax (Japan) silver with star and vari tint green bubble. Dice, Linkert Tewkesbury and Phsyco Wheels Osaka stickers, 58-60. Only worn a handful of times. Nice comfy lid. £65 with bubble £45 without. SOLD

Picked up a few more old helmets on Friday including a very old leather Cromwell, Everoak Racemaster, Waddingtons Topper and an excellent Compton Scrambler with seaside postcard type stickers. Hit the Helmets tag for my others, i dont collect them honest i just accumulate them. I will sell them all one day, but not yet...

I didnt really intend collecting old crash helmets (or old badges or chopper push bikes or leather jackets) i just buy them and then dont want to sell them. So i suppose thats collecting.....

COTTON CANDY

Bought some cool vintage lids this morning from a local old guy who is moving house. There are a couple of Bell Stars, a Cromwell Corker and a lovely old S.Lewis leather piss pot (these were originally made for parachuting). I was lucky to find them, you are lucky you cant smell 'em.
