JUMBLEBUDDIES

The best things by far about having a blog are the friends you make as a result. Almost every time i go to Newark Autojumble i am asked by someone if i am Pete Stansfield, not even sure how they know what i look like but whether i am buying or selling i end up in conversation with someone who knows whats going on at my workshop.
Yesterday as i got out of the van, exchanged good mornings and had a moan about the price of tea with the people on the next stall it soon became apparent that Andy and his friends Jim and Sal followed EtR and also have their own blog at Benchdonkees.com turns out we had all been at Sideburn's events and have a mutual appreciation of Marrakesh as well as the usual shed full of unfinished projects.
Around midmorning i was presented with a cup of the super expensive tea by Dave Bevan and his lovely lady (i am so crap with names, sorry). Daves poetry and Bantam adventures have been the subject of posts on here and on Guys GKM over the past couple of years and Dave's Gardening/Skating/Stinkwheel exploits live in a corner of Blogworld called Happy Going Nowhere We always seem to go to the same places but at different times so it was great to finally meet up.
The Trip Out's own Estelle, Loggy and John came by shortly after, having bought a fireplace, psychedelic oil tank and a stuffed squirrel (if you know them you won't even question the truth in that) . Hit the Estelle tag below, again people i met as a direct result of her pipe smoking on this blog back in 2010. The same girl put a status on FB last week saying she was shy and self conscious, yes dear.

All of this reminds me i must get round to making a new blog list, definitely do it next week.,,,

AUTOJUMBLE OVERLOAD

10 years ago folk were telling me that eBay was killing the Autojumble, it may partly have been true but the real killer of Autojumbles in Yorkshire has been the Autojumble ! Within a 30 miles radius of here (Malton) there are 3 regular monthly fixtures plus Scorton a further 10 miles and Newark about 80 miles away. Its not hard to work out why they are all falling short.
Rufforth Park near York has been going for nearly 25 years but an increase in pitch prices a couple of years ago started the rot, they are now advertising on local TV to get people back but i recon only a big reduction in pitch and entry fee prices will bring about a return, if at all. Murton (again near York) started their meetings about 4 years ago, second Saturday of the month, but despite cheap rents, free admission and a good cafe it has never taken off. The same can be said for Squires Cafe every 4th Saturday in the month.
Scorton near Catterick Garrison on the 3rd Saturday is a great place, plenty of people on old bikes, plenty of stall space undercover and a couple of decent tea stalls but it seems to have become more of a meet and chat and i have never seen it anything like full.
Newark is always enjoyable, still busy on a good day and still a good number of private sellers along with a big hall full of trade parts. The classic car and bike show always draws people even during the winter months. If you havent been its only a mile from the A1, couldnt be easier to find. Its now run by Mortons Media so its future is probably secure for a few years yet. All the info and dates Here
The point of all this is that next Saturday (9th Nov) is the first Wetherby Autojumble. There are a few doubters but it could just work. The guy organising has promoted it well, again its beside the A1 so it has easy access, good facilites at the racecourse, incorporates a classic meet or two and (for now at least) its cheap. Over a month ago there were more than 50 stalls pre-booked. There is a good website with all the info. If it works it will probably be the end for a couple of the others but at least that will mean i can stay in bed more often on a Saturday morning.
I would point out that i have nothing to do with any of these events or the people who run them, i just enjoy going.

WORKING ON A SUNDAY

Although i never really count a sunny day at Newark as work.

NSU Quickly and Velosolex mopeds, pre war Lucas car headlights, classic sidecar racing parts, girders, 3 ace little chop tanks, cafe racer and chopper seats, Wideline alloy tank, the tidyest Griffin Clubman ever and the one and only set of Stellings and Hellings bars i've ever had. Now i have to persuade myself to part with some of it...

'DAM RUST

Amsterdam is bloody brilliant. It was the first major European city i ever visited, like every Rugby Club/Stag do/Pub trip we never got farther than the Hashish and Prossies of the Red Light district and i came home with a name and address written on a matchbox after a deep and meaningful 20 minute relationship. I've been back half a dozen times since and done the Museums and Art Galleries, taken boat tours on the canals and marvelled at the architecture. You drink Amstel in bars hosted by girls in Red Machine Support vests and buy cake that tastes like nothing you get from Greggs and when you get fed up with getting off your tits and on someone elses there are great open air markets with vintage clothes, antiques, jewellery .....and porn.
I dont know how big the Rusty Gold swapmeet will be but it's only about 5ks east of Central Station, free to get in and as good an excuse as any.

NEWARK

Busy weekend with Rufforth Saturday and Newark yesterday. Gone from not much stock to bursting at the seams, check back later when i've sorted it out.

WEEKENDER, WEEKENDER, GO OUT

Whitby will be a riot of colour and laughter...some other time. This weekend is for the best of Europe's Goths and Steampunks to posture and impress. Pale bosoms and polished brass cruise the pavement while grey bachelors with Leicas rush about with the excitement of a '70s DJ at his first ToTP. Hit the Goth tag at the bottom of the post to see what you've been missing. It's on Friday to Sunday with the Whitby Kustom show also on Saturday at West Cliff primary School.

Rufforth Autojumble Saturday morning, starts when it gets light ends about midday. I will be there selling quality pre-owned spares and listening to other stall holders moaning about how t'internet has killed everything and how shit t'weather is. Hope for Vincent basket cases, then be disappointed and make do with some hand cleaner and a limp bacon sandwich.
On Sunday at Elsecar, Barnsley is National Street Rods' Northern Swap Meet (i suspect it is probably an Autojumble), only happens once a year so best get down and pick up yet another project to sell on eBay for a loss in January. Details here

Sunday also sees the Malton Forest Rally taking place in the Langdale and Cropton complexes. Three WRCs head the main event while the far more popular Historic section is led by local hero Steve Bannister. All the info

RUFFORTH POUNDSTRETCHER

Hot and busy today at Rufforth Autojumble, probably the biggest one so far this year. Plenty of helpers meant i could wander about buying and socialising.
Our pound an item section excited the old and greedy Brit bike boys and got rid of loads of stuff thats been hanging around for years.
There was also a bloke smoking cigars in a pipe, not worked that one out yet.

Everyone happy.
