Alioli and i just spent a day touring round what is left of the industrial heartland of Teeside. Its as long as you need, we gave in and headed for the seaside.

BERBER MOTO

Just back from Morocco. Great two weeks in a country quite near but in so many ways light years away. Superb biking roads, especially in the mountains where we spent the last few days, with almost the entire two wheel population on 80s/90s MBK and Motobecane mopeds and all ridden with the sort of respect formerly shown to donkeys.
  The only big bikes were a conspicuously clean Harley cruising at the seaside and a couple of German registered BM's but the highlight was definitely an old Berber hill farmer astride an early '70s Honda SS50. These people keep old vehicles on the road with a bare minimum or money and almost no new parts. Our taxis included an old Merc' with 700,000 Ks (second time round ?) and wooden door handles and a video game dash through Marrakech at night in a beat up Fiat driven by a lunatic who would definitely have scooped best beard comp at the Trip Out.
  Good times. Good to be back.

2000 ACRES OF SKYE

Alioli and i are off to the Isle of Skye for a week tonight, if it rains (if !) i have plenty of badass reading. I've purposefully not started on this months BSH and only done a chapter of No Angel (lent by Tiddles) then today Guy sent me Tony Thompson's Outlaws book and latest GKM, best not forget me ready readers.


The only person i know of who comes from Skye is Danny MacAskill. In 2009 he worked in a cycle shop in Edinburgh then his friend made this film and put it on Youtube.



Within a week it had over a million hits and the fame brought him sponsorship from Red Bull enabling him to make the film Way Back Home the story of a journey from Edinburgh to Skye. If you havent seen it there is a link at the end of Inspired Bicycles, it is THE best thing on Youtube, really.

and i will never forgive Michelle Collins for Kenny getting drowned...
and there had better be Puffins...

FULLMOON CAMP KABAK

Forty years ago hippies travelling to Afghanistan and India camped at Oludeniz on the Turkish coast, back then before it bacame pizza and Sky Sports for the masses there was nothing there but a beach.
A pony tail in a colourful waistcoat told us to carry on along the coast road until it ran out then walk down a path to find Fullmoon Camp. You rent a little garden shed perched on a cliffside, eat homegrown food and peace out on a platform overlooking the sea. No golden arches at Kabak.

OILING THE TURKEY

All the regular websites i have read take you back to the same piece of info that if a Triumph sump has more than 100ml of oil in it there is a wet sumping issue. Mine always had 170-200ml.
After trying everything and Googling all i could about Triumph oil accumulation problems i stumbled on an Australian site run by a guy who makes breather systems for old bikes. It refers to a problem encountered in 1967 when some new 650s were fitted with a sump gauze that was too restrictive and they were blowing oil of of the breather. Bearing in mind that mine hadnt been run for at least 30yrs and anything is worth a go i cut it off and went for a 10 mile ride, i have an in line oil filer anyway so its not needed. Got back and drained the sump, 80ml ! I still need to make a new breather system (having read up the info on the same site) and strip the top end to fix a pushrod tube oil leak but happy days....




Thanks to everyone who has mailed and phoned with suggestions, we are off to Turkey for a week so back here after the Bank Holiday.

BUB, J, NAM AND WEASEL COFFEE

Bec and James have been touring round Vietnam on brakeless scooters, scruffy trains with shared sleeping quarters and dangerous looking grey planes with propellers and went with instructions to return with photos of each other eating deep fried Starlings and battered toads heads. Instead they have photos of beautiful sea food, beers at 10p, and beach huts within 30 metres of the sea.






But they did bring me some Weasel Coffee. Now sorting coffee beans isnt easy for a human but weasels know their shit (really) when it comes to a top notch bean. Nam man puts his pet weas' in with the beans, weasel sniffs out and eats only the best while his handler (probably called Mush Pong) follows round with a brush and shovel collecting the scrummy poo and using it to make the Princess Diana of ground coffee. It is the business in fact im having a cup now. Possibly not available in Waitrose though.

Race car weight 2 tons, driver weight 1 ton, aerodynamics of an end terrace but he's just "borrowed" an extra engine out of the farm truck for the weekend, good times....

He is going to smile at you for the next few days, i am off for some sun, back monday.
